Heartstrings: Room in Your Heart But Not in Your Home

My name is Whiskers. Life was good for a while, then my family gave me away because they didn’t want me anymore. I’m not sure why the new person took me. He kept me outside all the time even though I’d sit on the porch crying to come in. There were dogs and cars and other dangers and I was scared. Then, one day it happened. Someone shot me. I thought at least I’d get sympathy but he said that I probably asked for it. I’m a little cat. How could I ask to be shot? That was in April 2010. The bullet is still in me and he brought me to the shelter because he didn’t want me. That’s the nicest thing he’s ever done.

The kind people at Animal Aid took me to a specialist but the bullet is so close to my spine that it can't be removed. I get daily massage and that helps me feel better. I drag my back leg but I can still get around and jump up maybe 2 feet high. They have the room set up so that I can go from a chair to the window in three jumps. Wait until you see this video of me climbing to the highest place in the room!

Despite the cruel and uncaring people I have met, I love people and don’t hold a grudge. I’m still the outgoing and sweet guy I’ve always been. Just look at my photos and video to see how I flirt, roll over, snuggle, and make muffins. I’m as playful as I can be considering I can’t walk as well as I used to. Here I am playing and enjoying some petting.

My best features are my long white whiskers, my big green eyes, and the cute patterns on my face.

The perfect family for me would be one that would give me a lot of petting and attention and let me be the King. I will return all your love. I promise. And I will be grateful for a kind and caring home.

Sponsor Molly!
Click to sponsor Molly click to learn more about MollyIt's a strange thing to be homeless at my age but I'm making the best of it. The nice folks at the vet office contacted Animal Aid when my people brought me in to be euthanized and the vet refused. I'm thinking this is not a good thing as I have not seen my peeps since they dropped me off at the vet.

The holidays were not my best this year as I got a dental and had to stay kenneled at the vet for quite awhile until a kind foster family took me in.

Today's another day and a New Year and I'm feeling better! With the remaining teeth I have I'm enjoying meals and gaining my figure back. I'm willing to give my heart again and quite a few doggy kisses if you will take a chance on me. I'm not a youngster anymore and my hearing isn't what it should be but I'm a great lap/cuddle dog and still love to go for walks for a sniff or two. I have house manners and won't chew your belongings like those youngsters. My foster family has a kitty and I'm fine with her as well as other canines. I will love you the rest of my days if you would be willing to give me a chance.

Molly is a Yorkshire Terrier.

Sponsor Misha!
Click to sponsor Misha click to learn more about Misha

My Name is Misha!

My Personality: I’m a big girl with a bigger personality! I’m outgoing and chatty, and playful and fun. You know how most cats are somewhat shy when they meet a new person and tend to look away? Well, not me! I will look you straight in the eyes.

My History: My good friend, Chandler, and I lived together. Our family lost their home and took us to the county shelter. The county shelter was full and our time was up. Lucky for us, we made it to Animal Aid or we wouldn’t be here to tell you our story.

My Age: I was born in 2002, but I’m so spunky you’ll think I’m much younger when you meet me.

My Appearance: I admit it. I’m a chunky girl weighing in at 17# 10 oz. I must have big bones to match my big feet. My fur is a very pretty tan and cream tortie pattern and my eyes are a golden color to match. I’ve got a large head, so you might think I’m a tom cat when you first see me, but I’m not. I’m a lady through and through.

Update! As you can see from the new photos, my ears are gone. I had polyps in both ears and that caused infections so I had an operation. I've lost some of my hearing but it doesn't bother me. Ok, I know I look a bit like a turtle right now, but once the fur grows back, everyone will just think I'm an exotic breed.

My Videos: Click on the video icon above or click here to see me the first week at Animal Aid. I enjoy all the attention and playing. I was talking a lot until they turned on the videocam, then I stopped. Haha, cat humor.

Here's a new video of me post-op.. Chandler joined in too. You've got to admit I'm cute in a funny sort of way. Of course, Chandler is incredibly handsome but don't tell him I said that.

My Perfect Home: Of course, I want to go home with my friend, Chandler. After all we’ve been through, we don’t ever want to be apart. Plus we adore each other and sleep together and groom each other and we’re best friends. We probably don’t want a family that is too noisy or active because Chandler can be overwhelmed by too much action.

My name is Hope!

My Personality: I’m a quiet, easygoing kitty. I want the basic things in life: someone to love and care for me, treats, plenty of food, treats, petting, treats. Did I mention I like treats?! I like head and chin scratches, but you can give me a full body massage and I won’t complain. I will give you a gentle headbutt in return. I like to play with feather and string toys and enjoy a bit of catnip to get me in the mood. If you don't feel like playing, that's ok. We can sit together on the couch.

My History: My owners abandoned me on the porch of the shelter. I was very sick and scared. How could someone I trusted do that to me!

My Age: I was born in 2001 though I look younger. My eyes are bright and clear, and my body is fit.

My Appearance: I am a small cat but very solid. You will be surprised when you pick me up that I’m a lot heavier than I look. My eyes are a pretty yellow and my fur is shiny, thick, and black except for my back feet which have a brownish hue to them.

My Videos: Click on the video icon above to see me the first week after I arrived. Even though I’m in a cage, I’m just happy to have a place to live and plenty of food. Here I am enjoying some fresh air!
You can see how excited I get when I have a visitor. I never know who might be the special person who is going to adopt me.

My Perfect Home: Most importantly I want a permanent family -- a family that will take responsibility for me, not just someone who owns me. I wouldn’t mind living with a cat friend but would do ok as an only kitty. I’d probably be fine with kids as long as they treated me nicely.

My Name is Hamlet!

My Personality: I'm a people person (I mean a people cat -- sometimes I forget I'm a cat). I love attention and will roll on my back and stretch out so that you can pet my tummy. I'm playful, but I've got a sensitive side too.

My History: I was adopted from Animal Aid 5 years ago. They returned me to the shelter when they added a baby to the family.

My Age: I was born in 2004, so I'm still a young kitty.

My Appearance: I'm a handsome boy with my big green eyes, long white whiskers, tufts of hair in my ears, and fluffy tail. They think I'm a Maine Coon Cat mix because I'm so big and have long grey hair. I have been declawed.

My Videos: Click on the video icon above or click here to see me the first week at Animal Aid. It sure was nice to have someone there to pet me and to tell me everything will be ok.

My Perfect Home: I'm looking for a low stress family with not too much activity. I probably wouldn't do well with active kids or dogs. Ideally, I'd like a quiet home with someone who wants the perfect companion -- that's me!

Sponsor Gina!
Click to sponsor Gina click to learn more about GinaWoof! Let me introduce myself. Gina is my name and a forever home is my aim! This past year has been a wild one from someone spray painting my behind to becoming homeless. Even though there have been some not so kind humans in my life, I want to be in love with one because I know everyone is different and I'm hoping I can find my different kind of person all for myself! You see, I can't think of anything better than to be close to my peeps. Whether we're cuddling in bed, snuggling on the couch watching TV or going for a walk (I LOVE WALKS), being near you is all I really want. I know I'm asking a lot and you will get a lot in return. My undying love and loyalty. You'll never find a more grateful or better friend than me.

Some other things about me you should know. I've got manners and know how to sit when asked and I have a cute beauty mark on the top of my head with a matching one on my bum! I am a small 12 pound terrier and do terrier things! We are an active, loyal and protective breed. We let you know if someone is at the door. No door bells needed! I admit I have some baggage but hey, who doesn’t! What I do have is a heart full of love to give you and be a friend who will be by your side no matter what!

My Name is Emma!

My Personality: If you want someone to talk to who will answer you back, then I’m the perfect kitty for you. I’m a petite and feminine feline chatterbox. I like to be petted and it always makes me so happy that I need a snack afterwards. I'm just settling in now, but they can tell I will be playful because I chase after anything with a string on it.

My History: I had a home, but they put me in a cardboard carrier and abandoned me. I could have been killed by a dog or escaped and become lost. Why would they do that to me? I’m so glad I’m at Animal Aid where they will look after me until a loving family comes to rescue me.

My Age: I was born in 2001 but because I’m so small you might think I’m just a youngster.

My Appearance: I've got pretty tortoiseshell markings and big eyes. I was a skinny little kitty when I first arrived because I hadn't been treated for a hyperthyroid condition. Now that I'm on regular medication, I put on some weight and I'm looking good!

My Videos: Click on the video icon above or click here to see me the first week at Animal Aid. After being abandoned, it’s nice to have people who care about me and tell me everything will be all right.

My Perfect Home: I’m a special needs cat because I will need hyperthyroid medicine twice a day for the rest of my life. I’m good about taking my pill, and the medicine is not very expensive, but it’s hard to find a family that will take on the extra responsibility. I promise I will do my best to be the best kitty ever.

Sponsor Corky!
Click to sponsor Corky click to learn more about CorkyWe’ve been watching Corky as a foster family for the last several months. As foster family volunteers for Animal Aid, we find ourselves caring for a new cat or dog every few months while the search for permanent family is conducted. The following is a description of Corky that we hope will enable you to appreciate him as much as we do and provide him a forever home.

Corky is a mellow boy looking for a lap to sit on and hands to stroke his very soft fur. He loves to be with people. Since he’s a senior, he isn’t going to tear up any furniture and is completely house broken. His hunting instinct is still there, but he doesn’t like to demean himself by sinking to the level of chasing inanimate objects very often.

He loves to be petted anytime, anywhere. If you’re looking for a cat that will curl up in your lap and be the most loving companion in the world, this is the cat for you. He particularly likes his chin rubbed and loves to purr when he’s being petted…or even if he’s just sitting near you! If you’re looking for a mellow cat to provide companionship and never ending contentment with your company and love, Corky is the right man for the job.

He isn’t a needy cat and is completely content to be by himself. But when you’re near, you’ll find him purring with happiness. He loves to sit on your lap while you watch TV, lie in bed or sit in a chair. In fact, he loves to sit near you when you do almost anything; as long as it isn’t driving in a car! Once he’s home with you, he’ll purr when you just look at him from across the room!

He’s not a huge fan of dogs, but he adjusts just fine; especially to smaller breeds. Corky is one of the friendliest cats you’ll find. A terrific low maintenance companion that makes you feel better about yourself. And did I mention his orange fur is really soft?

My Name is Chandler!

My Personality: I have a sweet and gentle nature. I like to play a lot. My favorite game is where I chase and pounce on toys. I'm also exceptionally good at chasing bugs and moths. I've got a cuddly side too, and when you talk to me, I'll answer you with a nice meow.

My History: My best friend, Misha, and I were living in a home with other cats and two dogs. When our family lost their home, they took us to the county shelter where we would have been euthanized. We got very lucky when Animal Aid saved us from death row.

My Age: I was born in 2005. I’m still a young adult.

My Appearance: I’m a tiny blue and white Birman with beautiful blue eyes. I know I’m very handsome, but I want someone who likes me for myself and doesn’t just want me for my looks.

My Videos: Click on the video icon above or click here to see me the first week at Animal Aid. You can ignore the person in the video who said I was a pretty GIRL. I’m a pretty BOY!

Here I am with Misha after her operation. I still think she's beautiful even without ears.

My Perfect Home: I know that Misha and I are an odd couple. She’s big and outgoing and I’m tiny and shy with new people, but opposites attract and we love each other. All we need is a family who can accept us even though we're different. I’d prefer not to live in a house that is too noisy because I get overwhelmed. I was thinking maybe a nice couple might adopt us – it’s ok, if you’re an odd couple too.
